Folktales: Selected Episodes
A shared creative production partnership, backed by technical ownership and a repeatable broadcast workflow.
Overview
I shared co-production responsibilities for Folktales, Northeast Indiana Public Radio's weekly music program hosted by Julia Meek. Within that partnership, I handled the technical production and finished deliverables, including editing, mixing, mastering and preparing episodes for distribution.
Problem or opportunity
A recurring program needed consistent sound and broadcast-ready delivery, with a workflow that other engineers could follow rather than relying on a single person's knowledge.
What I did
- Shared co-production responsibilities with the program's host/producer
- Owned technical production and delivery of finished episodes
- Edited, mixed and mastered the program audio
- Documented show structure, spot placements, and level requirements in a standard operating procedure
- Helped transfer the technical workflow to another early-career engineer
Process
- Worked in a roughly equal co-production partnership, with responsibility for the technical side
- Established consistent episode formatting, placement of spots and audio levels
- Created an SOP that allowed more station engineers to work on the series
- Used the documented process to hand off technical production to another young engineer
Deliverables
- Broadcast-ready episodes
- Show SOP covering format, spot placements and levels
- Transferable technical production workflow
Results
The SOP made the program easier for additional engineers to support and enabled a successful handoff of my technical production responsibilities.
