Overview

Chris LeBrane's Campaign brought a synth-heavy setup, live drums, and live guitar to the Melrose Stage. With several stage turnovers ahead of the set, I needed to prepare and route numerous DI connections while keeping the changeover moving in front of a live audience.

Problem or opportunity

The band's setup deviated from its stage plot. The challenge was to absorb those changes, turn the stage quickly, and sound-check in front of the audience without losing control of the production.

What I did

  • Prepared and managed stage audio for a synth-heavy lineup with live drums and guitar
  • Routed the many DI connections needed for the performance
  • Adapted to changes from the band's original stage plot
  • Turned and sound-checked the stage in front of a live audience
  • Recorded, edited, mixed and mastered the session audio

Process

  • Prepared around the supplied stage plot and the expected instrument/DI requirements
  • Handled multiple stage turns before the band's set
  • Adjusted the setup when the performers departed from the plan
  • Relied on an established stage-turn and sound-check system to complete the changeover efficiently

Deliverables

  • Live-stage setup and sound check
  • Recorded, edited, mixed and mastered session audio

Results

Completed the stage turnover and sound check despite a changed setup, using a system developed through earlier Melrose sessions.
